5.1.1 - About Hatch

AutoCAD hatch patterns are used to fill an enclosed area with a pattern or texture. You can use these patterns to represent materials, such as concrete, wood, or brick, in a drawing. AutoCAD has a wide variety of predefined hatch patterns, and you can also create custom hatch patterns if needed.
You can access the Hatch tool in the following ways:

1. Keyboard : Type in circle and press Enter
2. Ribbon : Home tab ► Draw panel ►Hatch

In this tutorial, you will apply Hatches in the drawing shown in (Fig.5.1.1.1), using  the Hatch command of the Ribbon. The final result will be as shown in Fig.5.1.1.x.
You can create the example drawing as shown in Fig.5.1.1.1, or if you wish download it. On the article "Drawings for Tutorials" which will open, on category "Hatch - Patterns" select acad_tutor_hatch-1.dwg, download and open it with autocad.

• Open the Ribbon: Ensure that your Ribbon is visible. You can toggle it on or off by typing RIBBON in the command line or pressing Ctrl + 0.
• On Ribbon ► Click Home tab ► Draw panel ► Click the Hatch tool icon (hover on to see) .
• On the drop-down menu with the selections of Hatch, Gradient and Boundary, select the icon Hatch.
• The "Hatch and Gradient" window will open (Fig.5.1.1.2). In the "Type and Pattern" tab, you can select the pattern from the Pattern panel. You can scroll through the available patterns, or if you have specific patterns in mind, you can search them using the drop-down menu.
  For this tutorial, in the "Type and Pattern" category on the Type tab select Predefined. It specifies where to create a predefined, user defined or custom hatch pattern.
• In the tab Pattern you can select a pattern from the drop-down menu or you click the beside box with the three dots to open the Hatch Pattern Palette(Fig.5.1.1.3) ► select ANSI tab ► select ANSI31 icon . Notice that the Pattern option is available only when type is set to predefined.
  In the Hatch and Gradient window (Fig.5.1.1.2), the tab Pattern displays the type "ANSI31". In the below tabs, you can adjust the color, angle, and scale of the hatch pattern ANSI31 you have selected.

•  Apply Hatch to area Α1
   On the Hatch and Gradient window (Fig.5.1.1.2), in tab Pattern and in category Boundaries click the button "Add: Pick points" and pick an internal point in the area A1 of your drawing, press Enter and OK.
  The hatch ANSI31 applied, for a better result change its scale to 0.25. To do this, select the hatch on your drawing, the "Quick Properties" box will open, where you can edit some of its properties, like change scale to 0.25.
  Notice that "Quick Properties" icon at the "Drawing Status Bar", should be turned ON.

• Click inside the enclosed area Α1 you want to fill. AutoCAD will automatically preview the hatch pattern (Fig.5.1.1.6).

Apply hatch to area A2

• In tab Pattern, from the drop-down menu select the hatch pattern ANSI36
• Set the rotation angle of the hatch to 90.
• Adjust the size of the hatch pattern scale to 0.25.
• Once satisfied with the pattern, to apply the hatch, click Enter and select OK in Hatch and Gradient window (Fig.5.1.1.2) to finish.

With similar procedure you will apply the hatch to area A3. Select the predefined pattern "HONEY" and adjust angle to 90 and scale to 0.1000. The result will be as shown in Fig.5.1.1.7.
